I am a 1968 CVHS graduate and a course in Ethnic Studies would have helped me immensely in preparation for College especially a history regarding my ancestors, their country, their language. It would have provided a foundation for interest in foreign affairs, economic development, social justice, community development, and critical thinking. During our High School years at CVHS (my brother & 3 sisters) we were NOT motivated to learn because of the curriculum. IF there had been a course in Ethnic Studies, it would have definitely inspired pride in our heritage, knowledge about our heritage, and a history unknown to us regarding our ancestors. This course requirement has made in difference at other High Schools showing a low student drop rate and an increasingly enrollment at Colleges. My family and friends encourage you to support Ethnic Studies at CVHS!!!

UPDATE:   VICTORY!!! ON NOVEMBER 10, 2015 COACHELLA VALLEY USD VOTED 7:0 TO MAKE ETHNIC STUDIES A GRADUATION REQUIREMENT!

Dear School Board Representative, We urge you to support the implementation of Ethnic Studies as a graduation requirement at the Coachella Valley Unified School District. As elected officials, you can help maintain our district’s vision by ensuring that our students are prepared to graduate, and attend college, as critical thinkers, with an understanding of various cultural and social issues. The implementation of Ethnic Studies as a graduation requirement benefits our students and our school district.
