PETITION SFSU College Of Ethnic Studies

to: President Leslie E. Wong and Provost Vice President of Academic Affairs Sue Rosser

WE THE UNDERSIGNED WOULD LIKE TO BRING YOUR ATTENTION TO THE FOLLOWING PROBLEM, WITH RECOMMENDATION(S):

The proposed cuts to 40 percent of the COES budget will wipe out COES support for faculty hiring, research, and modest student resources that have survived a decade of systematic gutting.

These cuts will also impact students enrollment in COES classes and student’s ability to graduate in a timely manner. With a full and expanded budget allocation, not only will this enrich the community of San Francisco State University, but we hope to set an example for public schools, colleges, and universities in all of the United States.

IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE COLLEGE OF ETHNIC STUDIES.

Ethnic Study is a very important course for us to help understanding the diversity of America, as well as help us appeciate other cultures and traditions. For minority like myself, ethnic study can help us find our root and understand our own culture better. Therefore, no matter what the reason is, you should not cut the ethnic study course

As an alumna of SF State, I find your proposed cuts disturbing. SF State’s reputation for excellence and educational equity was built on the College of Ethnic Studies. Gutting it in the current political climate of national institutionalized racism is the WRONG message to be sending to the diverse students and their families, especially those who are California taxpayers. Shame on you!

Do the right thing and preserve COES, recognize importance and academic contribution of the discipline that won’t get covered in backwards ass traditional paradigm.

I am from San Francisco, and grew up in the city learning about the legacy of the fight for Ethnic Studies. This program is important to the whole community.
