PETITION SFSU College Of Ethnic Studies

to: President Leslie E. Wong and Provost Vice President of Academic Affairs Sue Rosser

WE THE UNDERSIGNED WOULD LIKE TO BRING YOUR ATTENTION TO THE FOLLOWING PROBLEM, WITH RECOMMENDATION(S):

The proposed cuts to 40 percent of the COES budget will wipe out COES support for faculty hiring, research, and modest student resources that have survived a decade of systematic gutting.

These cuts will also impact students enrollment in COES classes and student’s ability to graduate in a timely manner. With a full and expanded budget allocation, not only will this enrich the community of San Francisco State University, but we hope to set an example for public schools, colleges, and universities in all of the United States.

IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE COLLEGE OF ETHNIC STUDIES.

You don’t have to be a COES student to fully appreciate the value of a COES education. The most eye-opening classes I took were COES classes and they have since made me much more aware of the social implications of my work. Please don’t pick away at a college that has been a part of not only SFSU, but San Francisco history.

Ethnic Studies is a right. Ethnic Studies saved my life, improved my world world, and opened a whole new sense of empowerment, justice, and self love.

To both, President Leslie E. Wong and Provost Vice President of Academic Affairs Sue Rosser I would like to start off by saying coming to San Francisco State University has definetly always been a dream of mine. And after only taking taking a couple of LTNS classes here at SFSU I can honestly say it has made a big impact on my life, and has helped me realize I have a passion for wanting to educate not only history but Latin American history in high schools and help inspire them to attend college as well. By cutting the budget and essentially wiping out the ethnic studies department – something that was caught so hard for! – will impact and postpone my plans for graduating. And we really don’t need to be painting the science building all white. So boring and robotic, instead invess that money in us! In our education! This is why we’re coming here, not for white walls.
