Without knowledge about the history, cultural characteristics and challenges of ethnic groups, citizens cannot consider themselves adequately informed. In fact, ignorance creates unhealthy divisions within our communities, state, and country. The murder of George Floyd and many similar incidents have stimulated recognition of these divisions. One of the important ways forward is to require at least one course in ethnic studies at our universities.
